Arrived in Glasgow

Well this morning I woke up at about 8:00. Ulku (That's how you spell it) left earlier this morning but he left a note for me giving me his email address and saying to contact him if i ever need any help while I'm on my Journey. I made one last sweep around the city before I checked out of the hostel. I walked down to the docks where the Titanic was built, and then finally made my way down to the bus station to catch an "all included bus package" to Glasgow which basically gave me a bus ride to the ferry, and then a ferry to scotland and another bus to Glasgow all for 23 pounds. I got down to the bus station and bought my ticket. I was an hour early mostly because this traveling from place to place thing still has me a little freaked out, so I want to make sure I have time to keep a clear head and be in the right place. It's the best feeling in the world being in the right place, however this was not one of those times.

I waited with my ticket in hand for my bus to come in. I waited there in the cold till the time the bus was supposed to come, and that time came and went. I waited a little longer thinking the bus might just be late as sometimes buses are. 15 minutes later, still no bus. So I walked into the ticket office and asked the man at the front desk if busses are usually this late. It turns out my bus had come and gone right under my nose. I was looking for some kind of a bus with the words "Glasgow" or "Ferry" written somewhere on it, but apparently this bus had niether. The guy told me if I caught a taxi right now I still might be able to get down to the ferry before it left. I hesitated for a second and the he gave me a look like "you better start running now, kid" and so took off running through the bus terminal, and burst through the door to the street. almost immediately the taxi I was looking for found me. He flagged me down and said "you look lost, where you going?". I told him my predicament and to go as fast as he could. He smiled and said he thought it was something like that by the way I looked when I came out of the terminal. Luckily I got to the docks right as they were boarding the ferry, and quickly showed my ticket and met up with the rest of my group. The ferry was amazing actually. I hadn't expected much, but it had resturants, a casino and several lounge areas with a bar. I wondered for a second if I was on the right boat. But it took me to some city in Scotland (that I can't remember the name of) and I rode the bus for 4 more hours to Glasgow.

Entering Glasgow, I was a little disappointed. I expected it to be a little more rural that it is. It's really just another big city like the other two I just came from, and like I know Edinburgh will be too! I'm kinda tired of big cities, they all mostly look the same, I was hoping it might be a small town like some that we passed on the bus ride over. There were some little towns that still had ruins of medieval keeps around them, and vast countrysides. I suppose cities are ideal for a lone traveler though because everything's mostly within walking distance, and public transportation's good, but I'd like to be elswhere then the big city for a bit.

I checked into a youth hostel that's a little more on the outskirts of the city, so at least I do get a little more of the small town Scotland feel. The area I'm in looks like a picture from 1910, but you head about 5 minutes into the city and it's like modern New York. Again the internet situation is that there is none. I have to walk to an internet cafe to use the internet, so I'll do as much blogging and pictures as I possibly can. I am still taking pictures tho, so eventually stuff will keep coming. It might just be on a couple days delay. I love you all! Have a good night!

Hey Tyler,
So glad you caught that ferry!
If you want to get out of the city, you need to take bus tours or specific tours to certain destinations. Like to see Sterling Castle, you'll probably have to get a side bus tour there. Check with the hostel, or a visitors center. Definitely get out of the big city. Love you, Mom

Bro...just remember, when you encounter an Englishman, tell 'em that "Scotland is free." Ev'ry man dies. Not ev'ry man truly lives.
